Although it is a young country compared to much of the world, the United States boasts a unique history. Here are three of the best states to consider if you are looking to learn more about the history of the country and who and what helped to shape it into the nation that it is today.
Texas
Texas has a rich history worthy of exploration. From the hallowed story of the battle at the Alamo for Texas independence to the site in Dallas where President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot, the state has a long and storied history that stretches centuries. The Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District provides a 98-acre district that perfectly exemplifies life on the ranch. The 1,200-acre San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site has preserved much of the history of the 1836 Texas Revolution. In addition to the grounds, visitors can also check out the USS Texas warship.

South Carolina
South Carolina has a large number of Civil War historical sites that will intrigue even the most knowledgeable history buff. The city of Charleston is also a gem. In addition to being the place where the Civil War began, the city also features historic antebellum mansions, grand churches, and much more. Visitors can also choose to take a boat to Fort Sumter to learn more about this significant time in the nation’s history. Or combine a trip to the beach with a dose of history by visiting the South Carolina Civil War Museum in Myrtle Beach.

Massachusetts
The dream of American independence was born in the state of Massachusetts. From the Pilgrims’ landing at Plymouth Rock to the stirrings of the Revolutionary War in Boston, no history buff should miss a trip to explore American history in Massachusetts. In Boston, visitors can take a trek down the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail, seeing historical sites such as Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere’s house, Old North Church, the Bunker Hill Monument, and much more. The Granary Burying Ground is also the final resting place of founding fathers such as John Hancock.
