Tips for Fitting Exercise into Your Schedule

As an adult, you have a lot of things that you need to get done in a day. One of the things that can easily go out the window is exercise. To fit exercise into your routine better, consult the following tips.

Sacrifice Something

Realistically, you do have time to exercise during the day. With eight hours of sleep and eight hours of work, you have eight hours left to do whatever you’d like. Most health experts recommend getting 150 minutes of exercise each week, which equates to only 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

If you feel as though your schedule is filled to the brim, and you cannot possibly fit 30 minutes of exercise into your routine, consider sacrificing something else. For example, many people know the struggle of coming home from work and spending hours scrolling through social media to decompress. Instead of doing this, consider taking a 30-minute walk around your neighborhood.

Pick a Consistent Time

One of the best ways to ensure that you exercise consistently for a long time is by picking a consistent time that you get your workout in each day. Exercising at specific times can help improve your mental state. Building this into your already existing schedule helps it become a habit, and keeps you consistent with your workouts.

Choose a time within your day that you can realistically fit a 30-minute workout in. Whether you choose to workout during your lunch break at work, early in the morning, or in the afternoon, just make sure you find a time that works best for you.

Do Things You Love

Even if you’ve done everything else on this list, you may still have a difficult time making exercise a habit if you’re trying to do things you hate. Everyone enjoys different types of fitness, so it’s important to find the kind that makes you the most excited. Consistency is more important than the type of workout here.

If you try to go running five times per week and find yourself putting off your workout, swap these workout options for a walk, yoga, pilates class, dance, or whatever type of movement makes you excited. Doing exercise that you actually enjoy helps you stay consistent even when you’re unmotivated. It’s much easier to get yourself to do something you enjoy than something that makes you miserable.

One of the habits that people have the hardest time implementing into your schedule is exercise. It’s well understood that exercise is good for you, but it can be tricky for people to stay consistent with. These tips can help you exercise regularly and make it a part of your routine.
