Signs You Should Cut Meat From Your Diet

Meat is a good source of protein and is enjoyed by many people. While meat may taste good, it does not always mean that it is good for your body. Some of your health woes may be caused by meat and if so, it may be a good time to quit eating it.

You Have High Cholesterol

A good reason to stop eating meat is if you have high cholesterol. Eating too much meat can be one of the causes of high cholesterol, and the best thing to do is cut it from your diet entirely. Cholesterol comes from saturated fats found in processed meats and fatty cuts of meats including steaks and hamburgers. Eating a vegetarian diet can help lower cholesterol because they are low in fat and high in fiber. High cholesterol can also put you at risk for more serious diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Making this small diet change can lower cholesterol and improve your overall health.

Digestive Issues

If you are having digestive issues after eating meat, it may not agree with your body. Depending on what kind of meat you like to enjoy, it may contain a lot of fat. Fat takes a long time to break down in the body, which can leave you feeling constipated. Red meat is low in fiber, which is necessary for healthy digestion. Hemorrhoids can lead to unpleasant symptoms which can be prevented by eating more fiber. Reducing the amount of red meat you eat can decrease your risk of bowel cancer.

Constant Hunger

If you have a good amount of meat in your diet but are constantly feeling hungry, this is a sign that eating meat is not what is best for your body. Eating too much meat means your body is full of protein. Carbohydrates are a necessary part of your diet because they give you energy. Being weighed down by all that protein can make you feel sluggish because you have low blood sugar. This can cause you to remain hungry until you get the carbs you need. Cutting meat out of your diet will allow you to eat more carbs, fruits and vegetables, and high-fiber foods.

Meat is not always a friend to our bodies. Cutting out meat, whether as a permanent lifestyle change or as part of a temporary break can help improve your digestion and help you feel better. Even a simple reduction in the amount of meat you eat can have a positive effect on your overall health.
